Waltham Forest Community Choir
We grew out of a 2010 Age UK project for over-50s. Since becoming independent and extending membership to over-18s the choir transformed into a diverse mix of ages, abilities and ethnicities, covering all four corners of Waltham Forest. With 60+ voices, our choir performs an eclectic repertoire of songs embracing pop, soul, classical, folk, world music and jazz amongst other things.
The choir is led by two talented musicians James Naylor (Musical Director) and Michael Bates (Accompanist) they are both experienced composer/conductors. We are a four part choir who rehearse and perform at St Mary’s Church Walthamstow, Monday evenings and participates in borough-wide events e.g. Chingford Village Festival, Stow Festival, E17 Arts Trail, Leytonstone Festival and Christmas carolling. We love to get involved in mass participation events e.g. LSO 500 Voices, Tate Modern Turbine Hall launch.
We believe that singing is a simple pleasure that should be and can be accessible to anyone. Our weekly rehearsals introduce various singing and musical tips in a jargon-free and fun environment. We are a non-audition choir and membership is open to anyone living or working in the Borough of Waltham Forest.
London Forest Choir
With our forthcoming 70th anniversary next year, 2020, London Forest Choir continues to be a progressive and dynamic choir. Our varied programmes and no- audition policy attract people of all ages and gender who bring a range of musical abilities. This is evident from a vibrant membership of some 120 singers with groups and friendships that flourish amongst members beyond choir activities. We hold several social events each year and tour regularly both in the UK and abroad.
Our key strength lies in the excellent and exciting leadership of Jonathan Rathbone (renowned composer and conductor) and Leo Nicholson (concert pianist and professional accompanist).
